Armour is something that i have always had an interest in but have always shied away from building cos i think it takes a lot of skill to do them justice.....i look at some of the stuff produced by some of you armour guys and i just think 'how the f did he do that?'

but ive been playing around with some of those scrappers i aquired a while back using them as guinea pigs to try things on and i thought the time is right to have a go..........

kit is Revells 1/35 SU-100 Tank Destroyer.........basically a T34 chassis with a big box on top and attach the biggest gun possible ...........used during the last year of WW2 but still being used in some countries up til the '70s

learnt a lot playing about with this....tried to keep to the 'less is more' approach but i over did the dust wash and even washing it off wouldnt get rid of it adequatly :armata_PDT_12:....its easy to see how you can get carried away and over do it ...........need more practice with the 'mud'.....not as easy as i thought it was going to be

usual standardised Escale unit of comparison :armata_PDT_12:

I met a Russian guy a couple of years ago who specialises in German tanks. Even Russians like Nazi tanks :armata_PDT_12:

well....first i did a 'wash' with mig dry mud.....brushed it on in places.....let it dry really well, and then used a stiff brush to remove it.....that left it in corners and angles...i actually overdid it and it was hard to get a lot off even by wiping with water

the lumpy mud was made with a blend of plaster, the fine stuff from the bottom of a bag of kitty litter to give it texture, some MIG 'dry mud' to give it colour and some pva white glue and water to bind it together, .....spread it on in places with a wooden coffee stirrer :armata_PDT_12:

i think the mud is a little light in colour but my stockist didnt have any 'russian earth' so i had to make do with what they did have

I'm impressed! That is a first effort to be proud of. :armata_PDT_37: What scales is that, 48th? Seems that accidentally going overboard (which I don't necessarily think you have BTW) is even easier to do in the smaller armor scales. One tiny glob of mud can look huge.

Seems to be something in the air, as I'm lately drawn to armor as well and hoping to finish my first. This is good inspiration!
