Hey pete,

I used a 12V adapter i had spare...the two fans are currently connected in parallel...and all the wires are connected to quick release, Dick Smith, connectors.

I got a variable resistor type attachment for each fan so i have set up onto the container...im currently baby sitting the in laws house...i will post a picture later...

Currently also contemplating two other setups...i would like to incorparate an led light setup to the top of the box for added light..the 12V power supply with some 16000mcd leds should do wonders...

Also thinking about the fumes, and spraying area...a flat platform in the container would be nice...but then im wondering about the effect of an inclined or declined booth...to stop any potential contaminents...

How are you planning to set yours up...

BTW Super cheap has a great set of containers ATM...With some interesting lids...

I'm getting a manufactured Spraybooth, but I'm planning to install additional lighting by using one of those fish tank fluro's that have natural lighting.

Regarding your power, I think the problem lies in how much current you're drawing. What are the fans current rating? add those up and see what you're 12volt adapter current limit is. I think you'l find that it's probably not enough. Do you have access to an old computer power supply? That'll do the trick nicely.

I found an old cheap power supply from one of my older computers i made. I talked to my dad about the lighting problem and he gave me an awesome solution. He works for a company that imports lathes from china...and they come with 4 cheap, but decent, fluro light...whcih they take off and replace with 2 larger ones...I will take some pics later on of my attempt...plus if you like how the lights look im sure i could sort out some for you...there 220v btw

Hey, that's pretty neat. You've some how managed to keep your accent ;-)

Really nice neat work Cheyne, and pumping out 240cfm should be great for that little space. Have you considered some sort of filter?

Oops, just reread your post, let us know how you get on.

thats brilliant :armata_PDT_37:

let me pass on some info from using mine for 6 months

use a transformer for each fan as it will help
be warned that the back and sides of the box will bet covered with paint...............the vanes on my fans are coated with paint (primer, enamel and acrylic) after only 6 months use......i really need to give them a good scrape.......so those lights will get covered with paint eventually....
i havnt bothered with a filter........especially now im spraying almost exclusivly with acylics ........since the paint will dry very very quickly once it hits air.....my hose goes out of an upstairs window....ive even put a sheet of paper over the hose end and sprayed to see if it got discoloured, it only caught a little......most gets caught in the hose......and i dont use any thing with a smell anymore cept for a squirt of cellulose thinners every now and then

Thanks for the heads up...luckly the fluro tubes are free so i dont really mind if they get paint on them...ill probably just change every few months...seeing that to say the paint drys that quickly i may just divert the air to water...

Im really happy btw...my first air brush comes tomorrow...i managed to pic up an Iwata just like peters for 195 off ebay...:)...my dad will be sorting out a compressor...what sort of attachment would i need from the compressor to the airbrush? are they pretty standard?

I think that's where the filters would really help Beo, the theory being that most of the bigger paint particles get caught up in the filter and not on your fans.

yeah but the fans are so cheap i dont like impeding the airflow :armata_PDT_28: ...............although when i do get round to giving the booth a tidy over in the spring i might try some in the name of experimentation

That's really good, if you put a plane white backdrop, that will make a decent photo booth too. Thanks for sharing that Cheyne, great stuff now let's get it dirty.

Hahah yeah...i should, hopefully, have a compressor soon...do you think there is anything wrong with an Eagle Air Compressor, 2.5HP, 36L with a regulator?

only that its big enough to spray 1:1 aircraft! :armata_PDT_28: you really dont need one that big just for model spraying unless you plan on using it for automotive work too

I can get one of those for a quarter of the price of an Iwata Compressor...plus it atomatically replenishes...and 36L will last ages...it may be a bit noisey for a few minutes though haha.

Im also thinking about the whole automotive thing...i really enjoy spraying now haha

This is something I'm seriously considering soon. Thanks for the vid Cheyne.

As for the lights. Two suggestions that may be worth considering.

1: Mount them on the top/outside of the box. The box is translucent and the light should still shine through with a diffused effect. As per photo booths.

2: If there is not enough light that way, maybe use a sheet of glass or clear acrylic below the lights. It will of course accumulate paint over time but should be a lot easier to clean then the lights themselves.

Just my tuppence worth.

The lights getting spray on them doesnt really phase me atm...there easily replaced...what does interest me it the filters..peter seemed to pretty keen on them...i was thinking that a kind of hinged filter screen would do the trick...

Hinged so that it is accessible when replacing...so all you would have to do is flip it down then slide out the old filter and slide in a new one.

I have been following this thread and decided to give it a go.

btw introduced myself here http://www.escalemod...?showtopic=4366

Popped into Maplins and got there last two 120 12v pc case fans £11.98, then popped into town (oh I’m in the UK from the Southeast so I’m an Essex boy) to Wilkinson’s and picked up an 80ltr storage box and lid for £5.85.

Then headed to B&Q and picked up screws glue nuts/bolts and the tumble dryer bits, about another £15 I guess.
I had an old paste table at home that was going to be a wood and hardboard donor lol. I
’m planning for now to use a P.C. power supply as I had a new one lying about.
So in all it has cost me about £33.

Here are the progress pics.
