Hi Escalers

Well along with my house remodeling project demands I have been able to crank another offering for this forum build.

This particular aircraft is a Supermarine Walrus which was an amphibian that could also be launched from ships via a catapult. They were built from 1936 to 1944 and about 700 were made. Main duty was as spotter-reconnaissance and air-sea rescue. It was built with a metal hull with wood & fabric wings while the later Mk 2 was built with a wood fuselage due to metal shortages. Considered a rugged aircraft it was also operated from the deck of aircraft carriers. It was designed by Reginald Mitchell who also penned the Spitfire.

Revell of Germany kits this 1/72 model which is actually an older Matchbox mold. It is a great little kit with some nice detail especially considering that it retails for less than $9.00. Two sets of decals are included with painting schemes for the French Navy and this version for the British. Although the fit is really good it does suffer from a problem with the engine pod. In order to get the top and bottom wing close enough so that the struts would reach I had to trim about 1/4" from the top struts on the pod. Although this made the struts fit it causes the engine to foul with the wing requiring a bit of re-work to the engine.
My only regret is not building it in flight.

Now my question is what should I build for my last forum project? An Eduard 1/48 Polikarpov Type 10 fighter or an Accurate Miniatures 1/48 Gulfhawk???

Simply stunning Mark. After seeing your unique subjects, it makes me wish I had done more research. I still cannot believe the amount of detail you put into something so small. I will second Ole on the Gulfhawk.

Ole and Sam I now know to refrain from giving you guys a say in what I build next. Apparently you will default to choosing the difficult build!!!

I decided that in the interest of my sanity and trying to get one more build in on this forum before the cut off that I will build the Polikarpov. Just could not do two biplanes back to back

Since the Gulfhawk is a limited edition OOP kit and multi media, I will do it later when I have a little more time to devote to it. That way I can make it into a WIP. Perhaps the Escalers will find it interesting.
